Dr. Nick Mead (PhD by Public Works, 2016) has kindly donated his recently published book and two previous books on teacher education to the Sheppard Library.

Nick’s work focuses on the moral and political values of teachers, and the impact of current teacher education policies on the development of these values.

The first book, Values in teacher education (Mead 2013), is a collection of published works on this theme throughout his career as a teacher and teacher educator. The second, Values and professional knowledge in teacher education (Mead 2019), was developed following his doctoral work and reflects on the dynamic between social democratic and neo-liberal values in teacher education and development.

Nick’s latest book, Moral and political values in teacher education over time: international perspectives (Mead 2022) is an edited collection of research and reflection by international teacher educators on the development of values in teacher education.

Nick says: ”The moral and political values of teachers is a theme which has been at the heart of my professional development over nearly fifty years, both as a practitioner and as a teacher educator.

The purpose of all three books which I am now donating to the Sheppard Library has been to allow narrative and historical consciousness to inform a critical understanding and evaluation of the impact of current teacher education policies on the development of trainee and serving teachers’ moral and political values. This interdisciplinary approach offers a unique blend of reflections arising from my lived professional experience which is increasingly formalised in History of Education methodology and combined with my expert knowledge of teacher education policy and practice over time.
