John Lansdown Archive
Professor John Lansdown (1929-1999) was a pioneer in the field of computer art and computer-aided design, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. He was Dean of ADPA (Art Design and Performing Arts) at Middlesex and Pro-Vice Chancellor until his retirement in 1995. His archive and library were donated to Middlesex University by his widow Dorothy. The collection contains some of the few surviving records of the development of computer art from this period. The archive comprises slides, working papers, sketches, writings, articles, research papers, books and source materials.
The John Lansdown Archive is kept in a reserve store, but items, papers and books can be brought out for the use of students and researchers. Items from the Archive can be made available in the Materials Room which is located in the Basement of the Sheppard Library, Hendon.
The Materials Room is usually open from 12pm to 3pm Monday to Friday during term-time, when specialist help is available, but it is advisable to make an appointment to view the collection by contacting ACILibrarian@mdx.ac.uk.
