Criminology: Other libraries

Commuter students

We know most Middlesex students commute to the University.  So it may be easier for you to use a University library near you as a place to study and to access wifi via Eduroam.  You do this via SCONUL Access. Public libraries also offer study space. You can also listen to Kortext books whilst travelling. 

Using other libraries

SCONUL access 

  • Physical access to other academic libraries.
  • Borrowing for part-time, distance and placement students on undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.  
  • Open to all Middlesex University students and students studying joint/franchised programmes at partner institutions. It is not open to students studying at validated only partners.
  • To apply, go to the SCONUL Access web site, see the video on this page.  You will receive an email confirming your membership.  Take this with your Middlesex University ID card to the libraries you wish to use.
  • A list of libraries, their library catalogues and visiting procedures are available from the website. 
  • If you are a registered distance learning student and did not receive an ID card at enrolment, please create a UniHelp ticket to request one. Remember to state that you are a distance learner and wish to request an ID card. You should also attach a passport style photo of yourself. The card will be posted to you, so please include your preferred postal address in the UniHelp ticket.  
  • There is no charge for this scheme but you may be required to pay for an identity card at the library you visit.

British Library

  • If you have been unable to find the material you require elsewhere, you may be able to consult it there. 
  • If you need a journal article, our inter library loans (document supply) service will be simpler. This is free of charge. 

Eduroam      

  • Free wi-fi access to Middlesex's eresources at participating Higher Education Institutions world wide.
  • Middlesex University IT Username and Password are required to log on to this service. 
  • Please refer to our Wireless Access guide.  You may also find the Eduroam configuration assistant useful.

How to apply for SCONUL Access

Read books as you travel: Kortext

You can download the Kortext app and read your Kortexts on the move, using the read aloud function.  Get the app from your app store and use your MdxUni email and your Kortext password to set it up.

For most students this is reference and study access, but you may also be able to borrow books. 

Public libraries

Anyone can use their local public library. Membership is free.

You can find your nearest public library using the Map on the MDX app:   Open the map and scroll to the right to find Around Me and a list of local libraries and other places will appear.
