Referencing & Plagiarism: Turnitin

Turnitin

Turnitin is an Assignment Drop-Box tool which is set up by your lecturer. It is located within your module information in myUniHub:

UniHub > myUniHub > My Study > My Learning > Learning modules >  Module

When you submit your work via Turnitin, you can produce an Originality Report which can help you to avoid plagiarism.

This report provides you and your lecturer with a basic indication of how much information in your work is similar to materials from a variety of sources, including the internet, electronic journal publications, and other, previously submitted, students' work.   This report is colour coded as follows:

• blue (no matching words)
• green (one matching word - 24% similarity index)
• yellow (25-49% similarity index)
• orange (50-74% similarity index)
• red (75-100% similarity index)

Important: These percentages in no way reflect Turnitin’s assessment of whether a paper contains plagiarized material or improperly used material. Direct quotation, citations, or bibliography areas of the paper are not automatically excluded, so a high percentage does not automatically mean that you have plagiarised.
