A barcode is a unique 8 digit number which can be found on the back of your Library (Student) card and is used to borrow items from the library.

Bibliographic information
This refers to specific information about a publication such as author, title, date and place of publication, publisher, pages etc. You will find bibliographic detail on the library catalogue, on databases, in reading lists and in bibliographies at the end of essays/dissertations.

Bibliography
A bibliography is an alphabetical list of materials such as books and journal articles which you have used in the preparation of your work and may be added to the end of your assignment. This is different to a 'reference list', which only includes information used (cited) in your assignment. You will also find bibliographies in books or at the end of journal articles, which list all the material which the author has used. See also: Reference list.
Binding
Heat binding machines are available in each print pod in the Library for self-service binding. Heat binding covers can be purchased from UniHelp Desks in the library for £2.
Blogs
A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis. Several blogs are produced by Librarians to keep you up-to-date with your subject. Find them on the Library Subject Guides or on the Middlesex Uni phone app.
Bloomberg
Available in The Sheppard Library, Bloomberg provides real-time and historical pricing, indicative and fundamental data, charts and graphs on various topics, customized analytics, company and industry news, economic data, statistics, and estimates. Click on the link to book a workstation in S111 or 1-1 training.
Boolean operator
A Boolean Operator is used to combine search terms when searching databases eg. AND, OR and NOT.

British Library
The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom, holding over 150 million items from every country in the world, in virtually all known languages and in many formats including books, manuscripts, journals, newspapers, magazines, sound and music recordings, videos, play-scripts, patents, databases, maps, stamps, prints, drawings. Staff and students can visit the library for reference use, and some items can be borrowed using our Inter library Loan service.
